Dalton’s Family

Dalton

Dalton’s family feels so connected to his group home that they bring gifts and treats for all the children and staff each year for the holidays.

Like many families raising a child with special healthcare needs, Dalton’s family ran into challenges as Dalton grew bigger and his parents grew older. It became more challenging to care for him at home due to his diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

Eventually, Dalton’s parents knew it was time to find full-time care for Dalton. They worked with Dalton’s social worker and asked for help finding “the best of the best” care options, which led them to ChildServe.

“It took us two years to finally make the move to ChildServe’s Inpatient Rehabilitation program. It was a big decision and just talking about it often made me cry,” said Dalton’s mom, Terry. “ChildServe was always understanding, empathetic and patient with us. It was the wisest decision we made, and the best one for Dalton.”

At the ChildServe Homes program, Dalton stays connected with his friends, family and community while receiving the specialized care he needs to thrive.

Dalton’s parents were pleased to find that ChildServe quickly became a “second home” for him. Dalton lived at ChildServe’s Inpatient Rehabilitation program for one year before moving into a ChildServe group home where he could receive the constant care he needed while staying more active in the community and building relationships with friends and family.

Today, Dalton spends his time doing things he loves, like cheering on his roommates as they play games, staying active through community outings and van rides, and listening to music. Most importantly, Dalton’s family has watched him continue to live a great life.

“At the group home, they always put Dalton’s well-being and happiness first. They include us in any decision, and we feel that they understand us as the parents of a child that lives with them,” said Terry. “We feel that everyone at the group home is an extension of our family. We are all Dalton’s family.”
