John and Jill Lundberg

One of ChildServe's deepest and most loyal advocates, John Lundberg of Johnston, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Sept. 9, 2019, at the age of 71.

A devoted grandpa to Jordyn Williams, a resident of ChildServe's Continuing Care Unit, John would arrive at ChildServe at 6:30 a.m. nearly every morning to play music and brush Jordyn’s hair and teeth to get her ready for the day. His dedication to family was unrivaled.

John was a respected banker, hotel/motel broker and real estate developer. His hobbies included playing golf and riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Four years ago, John and his wife, Jill, were catalysts in transforming a little-used concrete courtyard at ChildServe into a healing garden. They were also deeply involved in a current ChildServe priority: extending care for medically complex young adults who previously would have “aged out” of the long-term care facility.

A total of $15,557 has been received in memorial contributions from 122 donors to honor the life of John Lundberg. These resources have been directed to ChildServe Forward Together capital campaign, a $10 million initiative to expand three signature programs: complex medical care, pediatric rehabilitation and behavioral health/autism.
